Browns Still Have Needs to Fill

The Browns have made a splash this year in free agency under rookie general manager Andrew Berry. He has filled a lot of needs with smart contracts and dependable players. After the first week of free agency, what are the Browns remaining needs?

Browns Needs

Berry still needs to find someone to man Baker Mayfield’s blindside. The Browns have shown interest in Jason Peters, and rumors of a Trent Williams trade have been buzzing all offseason. The best bet here would be to wait for the draft and get the best guy at ten. This gives a cheap option for the next 4-5 years on a roster that is going to get expensive. Andrew Thomas or Tristan Wirfs falling would do nicely.

Berry emptied the linebacking core of veterans with Joe Schobert in Jacksonville and Christian Kirksey now in Green Bay. He did, however, hit up the Packers for a nice depth linebacker in 26-year-old BJ Goodson. The Browns also have Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki, but help is still needed. This team needs a veteran to stabilize the room. Simmons would be great if he falls, but a vet should be the priority.

Even with Berry bringing in two safeties in free agency, this is still a need. The Browns have one young safety in Sheldon Redwine that showed some promise. They should look to draft another to take over for one of the veterans in 2021 while providing depth next season.

Overall Young Depth

Andrew Berry and his staff need to add depth throughout the roster. The best way to do this is to draft the best players available. If that player also fills a need, then that is a bonus. This roster is going to get very expensive over the next few seasons, and loading it with young talent will help. It allows the young guys to grow into the roles they need to fill. Who knows, you might find a few diamonds with some time to develop. Berry has done a phenomenal job filling needs in free agency. Now he must show he can fill future needs with the right picks in the draft.
