XFL players like PJ Walker were officially able to sign with NFL teams starting at 9:00 am EST Monday. It didn’t take too long for Walker to get off the board.

The league’s biggest star, Houston Roughnecks quarterback PJ Walker is reportedly signing with the Carolina Panthers, according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

While no details of the deal have been revealed, Walker was widely considered to be the first player off the board for the XFL. He led the league in passing yards (1,338) and passing touchdowns (15), and his play showed displays of Patrick Mahomes like throws and runs. Walker was also responsible for the Houston Roughnecks going 5-0 to start the season. The XFL canceled the rest of their season due to the Coronavirus, but the league plans on playing in 2021.

Walker will be reuniting with his old college coach in Matt Rhule. Rhule took over as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers this offseason after stints at Temple and Baylor previously. Walker was Rhule’s quarterback during his time in Temple.

Teddy Bridgewater is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Panthers after being signed by the team last week. Walker will most likely compete for the backup job. He will be competing with Will Grier and Kyle Allen for a roster spot.
