The Browns are prime to go to the playoffs

The Browns were mentioned in playoff talks last offseason, although it failed miserably. During the free agency period, the Browns went after needs instead of weapons for quarterback Baker Mayfield. There is reason to believe the Browns have done much better. The Browns finished last season at 6-10, which shows the glaring holes that they didn’t address last season.

The Browns offensive line

The Browns new OT

One of the biggest reasons for Baker Mayfield’s lack of success was having a terrible offensive line. Left guard Joel Bitonio and Center JC Tretter were the only good pieces on the line. In this year’s offseason, they made a massive splash by signing former Tennessee Titans right tackle Jack Conklin. This signing gives them three solid offensive linemen, and still, the ability will pick a solid left tackle in the draft.

Needs at tight end

One of the best targets for a young quarterback is his tight end. Last season the Browns got rid of Daron Fells, which hurt more than anyone thought. Former coach Freddie Kitchens did not like David Njoku for whatever reason. This season Njoku will be back, and the best tight end in free agency Austin Hooper signed with the Browns. Expect the Browns to use a double tight end set a lot.

New head coach

Freddie Kitchens was the Browns head coach last year. He didn’t make it past his first season. Decision making was a bust, and respect from the players was not there. Kevin Stefanski is the Browns’ new head coach. His creative mindset and a player’s coach atmosphere will help the team.

Pieces they still have on offense

The Cleveland Browns still have Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. as Baker Mayfield’s primary weapons. The backfield consists of an excellent running back duo, which contains Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Chubb, when healthy, can run for 1800 yards plus. Kareem Hunt is an elusive back with speed and creates high YAC on screens.

The defense looks solid enough to win games

The Browns lost Joe Schobert and Christian Kirksey to free agency, which hurt the primary leadership of the defense. The Browns fifth-round pick in 2019 Mack Wilson will have to step up in a big way. They will need to pick up a linebacker in the draft to give Wilson needed help.

The defensive line will all be back as Myles Garrett comes back from suspension. The defensive line will consist of Garrett, defensive tackles Larry Ogunjobi and Sheldon Richardson and possibly defensive end Oliver Vernon. This group could end up a top ten defensive line if they can stay healthy and out of trouble.

The defense will have arguably the best cornerback duo in the league. Denzel Ward had the lowest completion rate at targets coming his way in 2019. On the other side, they have Greedy Williams, who was the Browns second-round draft pick in 2019. He did not allow a touchdown as a rookie last season.

The Browns let go of a few pieces at safety that did not work. Then they picked up form Raider safety Karl Joseph and former Vikings safety Andrew Sendejo.

The Browns division rivals

The Pittsburgh Steelers will not be a factor this season. They have an end of the road Ben Roethlisberger and no true quarterback that will take over. The receiving weapons are not as talented as they once were. Their defense still has a lot of glaring holes.

The Bengals finally did something in free agency, but they have not picked up pieces on the offensive line to help out. Joe Burrow is the projected quarterback at number one overall, which will be interesting. They should not be a threat for next season.

The Baltimore Ravens will win the division. They lost key players but replaced them with players just as talented.
