Recently, NESN (New England Sports Network) has been airing the 2011 Boston Bruins Playoffs. Starting with the Montreal Canadians, that went seven games! Not only did these two teams have a rival history, but a lot happened during the 2011 season that made this one of the biggest series of the playoffs.

During the 2010-2011 season, on February 9th game there was a recorded total of six major fights, a goalie fight, and a total of 187 penalty minutes. But the Bruins won that game 8-6. The March 8th game was where Zdeno Chara checked Max Pacioretty causing injury and ending his season. The NHL did not suspend Chara or anything, but the Montreal police investigated. And Montreal went on to win that game 4-1. Here’s a look at the fights that happened on February 9, 2011.

During the series, both teams went back in forth throughout with goals and fights. Also, questionable penalties depending on who you’re a fan of. These are the games where Chara was booed when he had the puck by the Montreal fans and PK Subban was booed the same by Bruins Fans. Chara for the hit on Pacioretty and PK just because he was in Montreal at the time.

But in overtime, game seven, Nathan Horton scored to advance the Bruins to the next round of the playoffs!

It is noteworthy to say that more than half of the players from both teams are no longer playing on either team. Some great players have gone through Boston as well as Montreal who have either moved on to different teams or retired completely.

The next part of the series will continue on NESN this week against the Philadelphia Flyers.
