During the 2019-20 campaign, most players on the Leafs have had ups and downs, but Hyman always gives a 100 per cent effort every game. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty and go into the corners to dig out pucks.
He was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in the fifth round (123rd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. However, Hyman was unable to work out a deal with the Panthers and chose to become a free agent. The Leafs acquired his rights on June 19, 2015, before the start of free agency. On June 23 of that year, Hyman signed a two-year deal with the team.
He is playing in his fifth season with the Leafs. 2015-16 was his first professional campaign, but his time was split between the Toronto Marlies and the big club. Hyman’s first full season with the Leafs was in 2016-17. He had 10 goals and 18 assists, for a total of 28 points that year.
Hyman’s stats improved over the next two campaigns. During 2017-18, he recorded 15 goals and 25 assists. The following season, he established a career-high 41 points, including 21 goals and 20 assists.
Currently, Hyman is having a career year with the Leafs. In just 51 games, he has already tied his career-high for goals with 21. Hyman ranks sixth among Leafs’ scorers this campaign with 37 points, which is four points shy of tying his total from last season. He is averaging 0.73 points per game and a team-best 19.8 S% (shooting percentage) this year.
Unfortunately, the NHL season is currently on hiatus due to COVID-19, so he might not have the chance to increase his point totals.
