Bears Release Tight End Trey Burton

The Trey Burton experiment is now over. After signing a four-year $32 million contract with the Bears, Burton was released only two years later first reported by Adam Schefter.

Trey Burton had a great first year with the Bears catching 54 passes for 569 yards and six touchdowns. At the end of that season, injuries took over. Burton missed the Eagles playoff game and only started in eight games the next season looking a lot worse when he was on the field. He finished the year with 14 catches for 84 yards.

The Bears added veteran Jimmy Graham this offseason and still have a countless list of tight ends on the roster. Don’t be surprised if they cut more and add a better option in the later rounds of the NFL Draft next week.
