The Jacksonville Jaguars are shopping Fournette

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been busy this offseason by trading off all their top players. They already traded Calais Campbell, AJ Bouye, and Nick Foles due to a massive rebuild. Now there are reports that the Jaguars are shopping running back Leonard Fournette. Fournette is entering the fourth season of his rookie contract, and the Jaguars have till May 4th to exercise his fifth-year option. These five teams should have the cap space to make a move for him because he can still fit in a team’s offensive scheme.

Leonard Fournette is on the trade block

Can Leonard Fournette be traded before the NFL draft? It’s a good possibility since he is coming off his best season, especially being an active part of the passing game. He had 1,152 yards rushing and caught 76 passes for 522 yards.

The Jacksonville Jaguars should listen to the Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have an extreme amount of draft capital. They did sign Jordan Howard to a two-year deal, but he has shown he isn’t an every-down back. Fournette will be an upgrade. The Dolphins have shown that they are willing to spend due to their cap savings.

The Dolphins can easily sign Leonard Fournette to an extension right now. They have 14 picks in this year’s draft, but he is worth as high as a third-rounder. The speculated trade offer would not be the Dolphins handing over a third-round pick.

The Dolphins don’t have a true RB1 on their roster. With Howard as their starter, they also have Kelen Ballage as a change of pace back. This would solidify the problems they have at running back by placing Fournette as their true RB1.

The Los Angels Rams

The Los Angels Rams lost Todd Gurley due to injury complications and contract size. They will have to do a lot of maneuvering to provide cap space due to being six million under the cap.

Malcolm Brown is the Rams starting running back, and Darrell Henderson is the backup. Brown is nowhere near the caliber of running back the Rams are used to. Henderson did not take full advantage of his opportunities during his rookie season, which makes it a struggle. Trading for Leonard Fournette would solidify a nonexistent running game and would help quarterback Jared Goff.

The possible trade offer will be a player swap with draft picks. The Rams receive Leonard Fournette and a sixth-round pick. The Jacksonville Jaguars receive Malcolm Brown and a third-round pick. Putting Malcolm Brown in the offer can give the necessary cap space for the Rams to do this. They just need to make more adjustments.

The Buffalo Bills

The Bills are in win now mode but they need an extra spark at running back. They don’t have much draft capital because they have seven now after the Stefon Diggs trade.

The Bills have Devin Singletary as their starting running back, but is he the best option. He doesn’t seem to be a three-down back due to his injury proneness. Singletary would be a great back as a receiver and for third downs, but if they need a real three-down back, they need Fournette.

The trade offer would be best like this. The Bills will receive Leonard Fournette and a sixth-round pick. The Jaguars will receive TJ Yeldon and a third-round pick. Like the last trade, the Jags would be moving up three rounds and a player swap.

The Los Angels Chargers

The Chargers lost Melvin Gordon to free agency, so there is an urge to have another running back. They do have Austin Ekeler, but they need a running back tandem to secure the shelf life of the position. This team still has a murky situation at quarterback because Tyrod Taylor will need help. They are setting themselves up to win with a running game and great defense. Fournette and Ekeler would be a solid one-two punch.

An extra running back will take off a lot of pressure from Tyrod Taylor. This makes a trade proposal very straight forward. The Chargers will receive Leonard Fournette, and the Jaguars can receive a third-round pick.

The Jacksonville Jaguars best trade partner is the Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going all in this offseason. They signed Tom Brady to a two-year contract, they have a package of offensive targets for him, and have an improved defense. What the Buccaneers don’t have is a solid running game.

The Buccaneers don’t have a good running game, which last season was proof of that. Tom Brady always had balance in both the passing and running game, which makes this a priority. Ronald Jones carried the load last season, which was seriously dreadful. They also had injuries to the running back core. Fournette to the Buccaneers is a no-brainer.

The trade package is simple. Jacksonville trades Leonard Fournette for a third-round pick and add a sixth just to make sure there is no outbidding. This will prove that they are all in, and no one will match that.

Conclusion

Based on the possible trade proposals, it is safe to say there will be no use trying to get a first or second pick for Fournette. There are tons of ways to get an offer done. Except for the Rams, his salary should not be hard to workaround. This should happen before or even during the 2020 NFL draft.
