The Miami Dolphins running back core has gotten better since last year, but still could have some improvements. Here are three running backs the Miami Dolphins should still consider signing in free agency.
LeSean McCoy played for the Kansas City Chiefs last season where he rushed for four touchdowns, 465 rushing yards, and averaged 4.6 yards per attempt. McCoy also received 28 receptions, one touchdown, and 181 receiving yards. He helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl and was an underrated player on the team. McCoy is not a starter, but he is definitely a skilled veteran. He is 31 years old and can still run the ball efficiently. McCoy can play third-down back for the Miami Dolphins since he can still rush and receive for long gains. He knows how to make something out of nothing because of his sudden burst and ability to juke the defender. Overall, if McCoy was signed by the Dolphins he would be a third-down back and a good receiving back.
Frank Gore played for the Buffalo Bills last season where he rushed for two touchdowns, 599 rushing yards, and 3.6 yards per attempt. Gore also received 13 receptions, zero touchdowns, and 100 receiving yards. He helped the Buffalo Bills make the playoffs and almost make it out of the first round. Gore is not a starting-caliber running back anymore but is a good veteran presence to have on the field. He is 36 years old, but can somehow still run the football. Gore would be a good running back to have on the roster for depth and to be able to teach Jordan Howard and Kalen Ballage some skills. He still has some gas left in the tank and is showing no signs of retiring this season. Overall, if Gore was signed by the Dolphins he would help bring some veteran presence and be a leader on the team.
Carlos Hyde played for the Houston Texans last season where he rushed for six touchdowns, 1070 rushing yards, and 4.4 yards per attempt. Hyde also received 10 receptions, zero touchdowns, and 42 receiving yards. He had a breakout season last year rushing for the most yards in his career. Hyde is 29 years old but is a player that could split snaps with Jordan Howard. He will most likely not be expecting top money because it is so late in free agency. Overall if the Dolphins signed Hyde he would be a good back up to play behind Howard.
