Finally Some Good News From the NBA

There hasn’t been a lot of good news lately in the sports world with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. NBA Teams have been shutdown like most of the country for the last couple of months. There was finally some good news that surfaced today via Adrian Wojarnowski.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Some NBA teams will be able to open their facilities for workouts this coming Friday. Teams that are in areas that have not eased restrictions yet will work out a plan with the NBA on what to do next. Places like Georgia and Texas have started to ease restrictions and will allow their players to work out at their team facilities.

This will give teams a better sense of where their players are physically and emotionally since teams have not had contact with players outside of phone calls and virtual meetings.

What this could mean for a possible return this NBA season

This, of course, is not a direct indication of when or if the season will resume but it does provide some hope for a return. Players like Chris Paul have commented that it will take players several weeks to get back into playing shape.

“I’m just letting you know — and I don’t think the league would do it anyway — but if they were like, ‘Hey, you got two weeks, and then we’re going,’ that’s not going to happen,” Paul said of a potential return to action during a conference call with media members, via ESPN. “That’s not going to happen. Whatever the amount of time is, just know that players will have the input, the say-so, because we’re the ones playing. That comes first. We don’t ever want to put guys in a situation where their injury risk is higher than ever before.”

The league would have to institute an in-season training camp for players to get back to game playing shape whenever the season starts.

It is only the first step but it is the first positive news we have had for a while in a possible NBA return this season. Of course, the health of players and the public is the first priority but this is a step in the right direction.
