The New England Patriots have signed their second-round draft pick and 60th pick overall, Josh Uche, to a four-year deal worth $5.389 million. This signing also includes a bonus of $1.48 million. He is the first of the Patriots’ high draft picks to sign so far.

Josh Uche

Josh Uche played at the University of Michigan and started 12 games in the 2019 season at linebacker. Over Uche’s four-year career with the Wolverines, he racked up 52 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, three forces fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two pass defenses in his 26 career games.

The New England Patriots have many new players added to the team from the draft. Ten of them are in the first seven rounds of the 2020 draft. These ten draft picks include Dugger at safety and Uche at linebacker in the second round, Jennings at outside linebacker and Asiasi and Keene at tight end in the third round, Rohrwasser at kicker in the fifth round, Onwenu at guard, Herron at offensive tackle, and Maluia at linebacker in the sixth round, and Woodard at cornerback in the seventh round. Out of all of these picks, Uche was the first to sign with the Patriots.

Josh Uche scored a prospect grade of 6.31 at the 2020 NFL Combine, which projects him to become a starter within his first two seasons. Overall, it may be challenging to balance Uche’s skill set and athletic potential with his inexperience and lack of instincts. But, by improving his second-level instincts and finding his elective defensive mind, he can unlock his potential.
