In today’s article for OTH MMA’s “Scottish Week”, it’s only fair to look at one of the most famous Scottish MMA fighters: STEVIE “BRAVEHEART” RAY.

Stevie’s been a prominent figure in the Scottish MMA scene and is a fan-favorite amongst the Scots.  

Steven Ray was born on March 25th, 1990, in Kirkcaldy, Fife. Ray competes in the Lightweight division of the UFC. He trains out of the Dinky Ninja Fight Team, in Fife, Scotland.

Stevie Ray, a southpaw, holds a record of 23-0-9 in his 32 Pro-MMA fights. Stevie first started out at middleweight, but eventually, his next fights were at Welterweight. His lightweight debut was against Stu Barrs, which he won via TKO in the 2nd round in his hometown.

Ray, who’s been competing professionally since 2010, has also held the belt previously in both BAMMA and Cage Warriors, where he was the Lightweight Champion. He won the title 2 times and successfully defended it one time.

Ray made his pro-MMA debut in June 2010. He competed predominantly in the UK, where he held a record of 16–5 before joining the UFC. He’s amassed a record of 7-0-4 in his 11 UFC bouts, holding notable wins over Michael Johnson, Joe Lauzon, Jessin Ayari and Ross Pearson. Stevie won the performance of the night in his fight with Leonardo Mafra.

In addition to being a high-caliber fighter, Stevie is also a fantastic athlete who loves to compete. He’s a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu under Roberto Atalla and has won both the Scotia Cup and the Glasgow Open two years in a row.  He also won the Edinburgh Open in 2019, competing at middleweight.

Stevie was expected to face Marc Diakiese on March 21, 2020, at UFC Fight Night 171 in London. However, The event was eventually called off. Stevie had set big goals for 2020 and is raring to get back inside the octagon once the current pandemic passes.
