During the day of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Patriots signed former Jacksonville Jaguars receiver, Marqise Lee, to a one-year deal. Lee and Damiere Byrd are the only two veteran receivers added so far by free agency this off season.
Lee With the Jaguars
Marqise Lee is a five-year veteran who had outstanding seasons with the Jaguars in 2016 and 2017. Lee racked up 119 receptions and six touchdowns to lead the Jaguars to the 2017 AFC Championship, the game the Patriots won. The next two seasons were full of injuries for Lee. He wanted to get back on track and he did so by signing with the Patriots. Lee says it has been difficult for him with his injuries, like his knee injury and his shoulder injury. He wants to get back out on field and play football. Lee says he is “just ready to get at it.”
Lee on the 2017 AFC Championship
It was a tough loss for Lee and the Jaguars, as the Patriots narrowly defeated them 24-20. In the game, Lee was targeted eight times, made four receptions, and had a total of 41 yards. Lee says that this game just showed him what New England Patriots football is all about. Lee says that the game “showed the resiliency of New England.” He saw that the Patriots never gave up and kept fighting and that is what Lee likes about New England.
