Browns Sign Fifth Round Pick Nick Harris

The Browns have signed fifth-round pick Nick Harris. Harris gets a four-year deal worth 3.6 million. Harris was drafted by Browns GM Andrew Berry and will have every chance to win the backup center job. He is a bit undersized but has the athletic traits that fit the wide zone scheme favored by head coach Kevin Stefanski. It is unlikely that Harris could handle playing guard in the NFL at his size but night be given a try on the right side where questions still abound. The signing of Harris makes three 2020 draft picks taken care of and four more to go. Here is what I wrote about Harris in my draft grade article.

Harris enters the NFL as a center only prospect even after playing guard and center in college. He brings quick feet and a professional mentality. He is not the most athletic prospect but makes up for it with smarts and excellent technique. The Browns have a top ten center in J.C. Tretter signed to a fresh new three-year deal, so Harris is competing to back him up. Going for a smart, instinctive, sound depth lineman in the fifth round is a solid move by the front office.

Harris’ body type belies his impressive foot quickness and ability to make all the move blocks needed from his position. His ability to sustain both run and pass blocks speak to his consistency of effort and performance, but size, scheme, and positional limitations could cause him to drop lower in the draft than his actual tape would dictate.“
