After speculation that Kevin Durant may be willing to participate in Orlando for the remainder of the 2019-20 NBA season, the news has surfaced today that Durant is unlikely to play in Orlando. Without Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving will most likely not choose to play in Orlando. Kyrie’s choice will be hard because his shoulder surgery was assumed to be season-ending.
The devastating announcement changes the Nets’ outlook from a legitimate championship contender to a wild card pick in the playoffs. Last year, the Nets lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in five games. It is apparent that the roster last year was better than the Nets’ current roster without Kyrie and KD because the Nets lost All-Star D’Angelo Russell in the offseason. If the Nets can maintain the seven seed in the eastern conference standings, they will most likely face the Toronto Raptors. It can be predicted that Pascal Siakam will overpower the Nets because he is a bad matchup for the Nets.
The decision of Kevin Durant to sit out for the remainder of the season may be surprising to many. Therefore, New Yorkers should respect the tough decision that Kevin Durant and the team had to make. Nets fans can look forward to seeing the Brooklyn Nets play in Orlando. Fans can also expect big performances from Caris Levert, and Spencer Dinwiddie. Most likely, these players can overpower the Raptors backcourt of Fred VanVleet and Kyle Lowry. Overall, I am expecting the Brooklyn Nets to lose in six games to the Toronto Raptors. In conclusion, I am confident that the Nets will use their time in Orlando to build team chemistry and develop their skills.
