After Darren Waller had a breakout season, the addition of veteran Jason Witten, and potential of second-year Foster Moreau, give the Raiders a strong tight end core for the 2020 season. As a group, all 3 will certainly put the pressure on most defenses they face, as well as taking some of the pressure off Derek Carr.
Darren Waller
Waller was taken with the 204th section in the 2015 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens. After dealing with suspensions in 2016 and 2017, he was finally set to play a full season for the Raiders in 2019. Waller did not disappoint as he caught 90 passes for 1,145 yards and three touchdowns. He was the centerpiece for the Raiders offense last year and is going into next season as a definite top five tight end. Waller will continue to dominate for the Raiders and lead this very talented tight end group.
Jason Witten
Jason Witten is no doubt one of the best tight ends in NFL history and a future Hall of Famer. With this being said he is also 38 and well past his prime. Despite his old age, Witten was still able to produce decent numbers in 2019. He caught 63 passes for 529 yards and 4 touchdowns. Having a veteran presence on a maturing tight end core is certainly going to help Waller and Moreau progress. He will most likely take a fall in 2020 where he will be playing a smaller role behind Waller. Nonetheless, Witten is still better than most backup tight ends in the NFL.
Foster Moreau
Former fourth round pick, Foster Moreau is coming off his rookie season in which he caught 21 passes for 174 yards and 5 touchdowns. Moreau is considered the 3rd string tight end on this Raiders offense, however, he has nothing but potential. For most teams, Moreau could certainly be considered as a developing backup tight end. With Witten only on a 1-year deal, there is no doubt Raiders fans will see Moreau progress through his rookie contract. Eventually, Moreau may even be able to fill into Wallers role as the Raiders starting tight end.
