After many interviews, the Houston Astros have hired Dusty Baker. Following the wake of their cheating scandal, Houston had to fire AJ Hinch. This came shortly after he was suspended by MLB for his role in the Astros’ cheating scandal.
The 70-year-old became the oldest manager in the big leagues. Hinch’s firing came on January 13th, only an hour after he was suspended for the season by Major League Baseball.
“Throughout his successful career, Dusty has embodied the qualities that we were looking for in a manager.” Astros owner Jim Crane said in a statement. “He’s a winner. More importantly, a strong leader who has earned the respect of not only his players, but of virtually everyone that he has touched in baseball. We’re extremely excited to name Dusty Baker as the new leader of our ballclub and we hope he leads us to another winning season.”
Dusty Baker has been a successful manager around MLB for many years, so he should the Astros. It will be interesting to see what he can bring to table for Houston in 2020.
