Cleveland Cavaliers big man Andre Drummond announced today that he plans to return to the Cavs next year. He’ll be accepting his player option for next year worth $28.75 million.
Drummond, who was traded to Cleveland all the way back in February, is nearly 27 years old. He’s still considerably young and ready to make an impact on a growing team. Drummond said that the money would be “hard to give up” when he told media that he’d be returning to Cleveland next season. It’s a big deal for Cleveland that establishes some certainty heading into the offseason.
This creates an obvious need at the forward spot of this team. Now, not having to worry so much about a big man, Cleveland can focus on their priorities more. Koby Altman is proving day by day, he plans to turn this team around as quick as possible. Sending very minimal in return for an All-Star big turned out to be worth the gamble.
“I definitely will be in Cleveland”, is a phrase that Cavs fans will hope to hear more of in the future, from other players. Having Drummond on the team makes Cleveland a more desirable destination for free agents in the upcoming class. Being smart and diligent in free agency in the draft is now the number one priority after securing Andre Drummond for another year.
