Long Time Radio Announcer ‘G-Man’ Moves To TV
Long time Sacramento Kings radio announcer, Gary Gerould, will take over as interim television play by play man for the rest of the 2020 season.
Gerould will join former Kings defensive stopper, Doug Christie, as the two-man television broadcasting duo as the Kings make their playoff push in the NBA’s ‘Orlando bubble’!
“I am so excited about this opportunity provided by the Sacramento Kings and really look forward to calling the restart of this unprecedented season,” said Jason Ross. “I am also thrilled to see the pairing of the G-Man with Doug Christie on TV. Having worked with Gary for 25 seasons, who has been a mentor and a role model, I accept the challenge of filling his big shoes.” -Gary Gerouldhttps://www.nba.com/kings/news/kings-name-gary-gerould-interim-tv-play-play-announcer
In addition, long time Sacramento State Football announcer, Sacramento King’s journalist and radio host Jason Ross will take over the radio play by play in an interim role.
Gerould Replaces Napear… For Now
The Kings former television announcer, Grant Napear was recently fired from his radio show on Sacramento radio station 1140 KHTK AM, where he was a radio host for over two decades.
Napear also resigned over a controversial Twitter exchange with former Kings players Twitter Link Here.
Sacramento Legend – ‘G-Man’
Gary Gerould has been the Sacramento Kings radio announcer since 1985.
Gerould was born in Michigan, and had his first announcing gig as a 15-year-old!
After that, Gerould graduated from college in Indiana, and he moved to northern California, – Chico, CA to be exact (where I am currently writing this article, sitting in my front yard). Chico is where he got his start as a radio broadcaster and sportscaster.
Gerould moved to Sacramento because one of Sacramento’s largest news outlets KCRA 3 hired him. This job helped further his career and led to his job with the Sacramento Kings!

Kings Playoff Push
Because of the King’s record when the season went into hiatus on March 22nd, they will be one of the 22 teams headed to the NBA’s ‘Orlando bubble’ to compete for the final eight playoff spots in each conference.
“Each of the 22 teams would play 8 regular season games in the bubble, and according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, teams will have the opportunity to participate in a play-in tournament for the 8th seed in their respective conferences, based on how they finish the regular season.”
The play-in tournament will include the No. 8 and No. 9 teams — if the ninth seed finishes the regular season within four games of the eighth, sources said. In that case, the No. 8 seed enters a double-elimination tournament, and the No. 9 seed a single-elimination tournament, sources said.”

Will G-Man be announcing the first Sacramento Kings playoff game in 14 seasons?!
In conclusion, Gerould doesn’t seem like the long term fit for the Kings’ television announcer. However, G-Man will be a great interim announcer next to Doug Christie as the Kings make their playoff push!
In short, the NBA is almost back, and I am excited for the Kings to return to play!
