What a day it is for Howard and all HBCU programs across the country. Five star center Makur Maker just committed to Kenny Blakeney and the Howard Bison. Maker chose the Bison over UCLA, Kentucky, and Memphis. Maker is a member of the 2020 class.
Makur Maker is a 6’11 center who plays like a guard. This is very big commitment not only for Howard but for many HBCU programs across the country. He is the first big name player to commit to an HBCU and he will not be the last. He was also the first player to announce he was visiting an HBCU school. In his commitment post on his Twitter he stated, “I was the 1st to announce my visit to Howard & other started my dream “what if”. I need to make the HBCU movement real so that others will follow. I hope I inspire guys like Mikey Williams to join me on this journey. I am committing to Howard U and coach Kenny Blakeney”. Maker is starting a trend. He wants to inspire other top players not just visit an HBCU but to consider playing for one of these great University’s.
Makur declared for the NBA draft back in April. Many people believe he will never play college basketball. He may never play college basketball but either way, Makur made a statement today by committing to an HBCU and It was an awesome one.
