The Colorado Rockies are going to have an opportunity to use a DH for the whole 2020 season. The question is, who is going to be the extra bat? There are two players that are more than likely to get it, but also a few other candidates.
The Options
Charlie Blackmon
Blackmon is the front-running candidate for the DH position. He turned 34 on the 1st of July. This will give younger players such as Sam Hilliard and Raimel Tapia more opportunity to play in the field. This will also keep his hot bat in the lineup and hopefully have him miss less games from fatigue.

Daniel Murphy
Murphy is the next man that might get the job. With his age at 35 he is another one that is slowing down in the field. With Ryan McMahon taking over first base full time, that leaves a spot open for Murphy with the DH. If he can get his .279 average up from last year and keep his decent .328 OBP, he might have the job.
Matt Kemp
Matt Kemp was picked up by the Rockies right after Ian Desmond opted out of the 2020 season. Kemp didn’t do much last year, having a .200 BA and a .210 OBP for the Reds. He also only had one HR. This could be a good roll for Kemp. He turns 36 on September 23rd, and he can focus on hitting. The other thing is Kemp will be a DH at home in Coors field, which is a huge hitters park. This could be a bounce back season for him and solidify himself as the Rockies DH.

Any of the starters
In an interview that the Denver Post had, they asked Bud Black about the DH position. He replied with, “All our main guys who are everyday players — Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story, Charlie Blackmon, David Dahl, Daniel Murphy — those guys will need a blow (and will DH),” Black said. “And ironically, all of them don’t like to DH — they’d rather play.” This means that any of the starters could eventually play the DH roll and get a break. By doing that, we could see Garrett Hampson, and Brendon Rodgers at second, Ryan McMahon at first, and Josh Fuentes at 3rd possible. The outfield could also have subs with Raimel Tapia, Sam Hilliard, Matt Kemp, and possible another player.
The Rockies have many players that can easily fill the DH position. They have a ton of older players that still have a charge in their bat and would do more damage on the offensive side. They could also do as Bud Black talked about in his interview. This could give more opportunity for younger players to get on the field and hopefully keep everyone fresh. Whoever the Rockies will pick, I feel that it will be good to have another hitter in the lineup for a hitters ballpark.
