MLB 2020 Schedule Release: San Francisco Giants

Today MLB took a big step towards returning to play on the weekend of July 23-24 when they announced the schedule. Due to the Coronavirus, the schedule for each team is vastly different from the usual schedule. Each team will play 40 games against the teams inside their division and 20 games against the same division in the opposite league. The Giants specifically have some interesting things to note from their MLB 2020 schedule.

Madison Bumgarner’s Return

The Arizona Diamondbacks will be coming to San Francisco sporting a few former Giants on their roster. The biggest television draw will be the return of Madison Bumgarner. Though don’t forget about fan-favorite Stephen Vogt also making his return. While Giants fans won’t get to cheer (or jeer) their former favorites. it will be the first time Giants fans see Madison Bumgarner in anything other than a Giant’s uniform. All I can say is I hope they let him hit.

Dates: August 21-23

Dodgers vs. Giants Early

The Giants are obviously going to be playing the Dodgers quite a bit this year. Turns out a lot of these games will be nationally televised. The Giants start the season with a four-game set against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Three of those four games will be nationally televised. That includes being one of only two games on July 23rd. That game will likely have a classic Clayton Kershaw versus Johnny Cueto. Another note is that the Giants will play the Dodgers ten times and only three of those games will be in Oracle Park. Yikes!

Dates: July 23-26

Houston A*****

The Giants being in the N.L. West means they will play 20 games against the A.L. West. One of the teams in the A.L. West is the always beloved Houston Astros. The Houston Astros are loved by everyone and will go through the entire schedule completely unscathed because why wouldn’t they? In fact, I’m not sure why I’m even writing about the Astros going to San Francisco as a notable aspect of the schedule…

Dates: August 10-12

Mike Trout…Hopefully

Once again the A.L. West will be 20 of the Giants 60 games this season. That means the Giants get four games versus the Angels and Mike Trout. Unfortunately, Mike Trout has been one of many players (including Buster Posey) who have voiced their concerns about the Coronavirus landscape and its constant degradation. While Mike Trout opting out would be more beneficial to the Giants in terms of win probability it would be a loss to the game as a whole and that is far more important in these times.

Dates: August 17-20

That does it for the notable moments in the MLB 2020 schedule or the San Francisco Giants. Mark your dates for July 23rd at 7:08 pm. Giants and Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw versus Johnny Cueto.
