With the NHL Playoffs soon to resume, the Bruins are coming off another President’s Trophy win. Due to the pandemic, the NHL shut down in mid-March. Now it’s time for Bruce Cassidy to add a Stanley Cup to his resume. In this post, we will review three reasons why it’s time for Bruce Cassidy to Win A Stanley Cup.
Time For Bruce Cassidy To Win a Stanley Cup
Team Getting Older
Since their last Cup, the Bruins‘ core group is getting older. This could be the last run with Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, David Krejci, and Tuukka Rask. This team is now anchored with a younger group.
Since last year’s defeat at the hands of the St. Louis Blues, the first line is a year older. The organization needs to spend some money and add some bigger, quicker wingers. As for the goaltending, the Bruins have the tandem in Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak. The good news is the team is healthy because of resting time due to the pandemic break. If the refereeing goes their way, they may make it back to the finals
Cassidy Is A Proven Winner
Since being named head coach four years ago, Bruce Cassidy has a fairly impressive resume. He has guided the Bruins a trip to the Stanley Cup finals in 2019 and a second President’s Trophy. The Bruins have two President’s Trophy titles in eight years. The last honor was under Claude Julien in 2012.
Now it’s time for Cassidy to add a Stanley Cup on his resume. If the Bruins fail or show signs of regressing then you can expect changes this offseason. Personally I think the Bruins are good for two rounds. Anything after that is anyone’s guess.
Bruins Have The Experience To Reach The Finals
Winning the Stanley Cup depends on two objectives: One staying healthy, and two the hot goaltender. Last season, for example, Zdeno Chara was hurt with a broken jaw. The Bruins have the defense to reach the finals.
Tuukka Rask played in every postseason game last season. If the Bruins defense can play up to its capability then Rask could have his first Stanley Cup under his belt.
The Bruins are getting significant contributions from Brandon Carlo, John Moore, Matt Grzelyck, and Connor Clifton. Charlie McAvoy is living up to his potential. Veteran Torey Krug is one of the game’s best.
Cassidy Has The Talent To Win
Making it to the Stanley Cup will be a challenge. As I said previously if the calls go their way anything can happen.
