The UFC is back on Yas Island for UFC Fight Island 1 following UFC 251 and it was an exciting card from beginning to end. Although 2 fighters (Abdul Razak Alhassan and Chris Fishgold) missed weight the card continued on. Let’s get into the fights.

Mounir Lazzez victorious in debut against Abdul Razak Alhassan

The main card started with firefight between welterweights Mounir Lazzez and Abdul Razak Alhassan. The fight ended as it started as both fighters kept up with each other. Blow for blow no fighter showed any sign of stopping or falling. However at the end there can only be one victor as Mounir Lazzez took the victory with the judges scoring the bout 30-27 x 2, 29-28. This extends Lazzez’s win streak to 3 and ends Alhassan’s streak of 3.

Taila Santos dominates Molly McMann

After losing her debut and suffering her only loss. Taila Santos knew she had to dominate in her next fight in order to prove she was still a potential prospect in the women’s flyweight division. She did just that. Santos showed Molly McCann every bit of her arsenal from her groundwork to her striking Santos cruised to a unanimous decision with the judges scoring the bout 30 -27 x 3. This loss snapped McCann’s win streak of 3. What’s next?

Jimmie Rivera out-strikes Cody Stamann

Both Jimmie Rivera and Cody Stamann accepted this bout on short notice but that didn’t stop them from giving us an exciting fight. However, Rivera was the victor between the two. Landing hard hits and a body shot that dropped Stamann in the first round. Rivera looked like the more dangerous fighter in a division filled to the brim with title contenders. Rivera got the unanimous decision win with the judges scoring the bout 30-27 x 2 and 29-28. This win snaps Rivera’s 2 loss streak. What’s next?

Tim Elliott gets decision win Ryan Benoit

Tim Elliot isn’t well known for exciting fights but this bout with Ryan Benoit says otherwise. Although Benoit had control of the bout for the first round and part of the second, Elliot rallied and recovered in the second half of the bout and traded with Benoit which led to a takedown attempt which led to the final sequence of the fight which consisted of a small grappling exchange where either fighter could’ve found a submission. The judges scored the bout 29-28 x 3 in favor of Elliot. This snaps Elliot’s 3 loss streak and extends Benoit’s losing streak to 2. Who’s next?

Calvin Kattar edges out Dan Ige for decision win

The main event between Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige was the most exciting bout and for good reason. The fighter that won could also throw his name in for a possible title bout. Kattar looked to establish dominance from the get-go by catching Ige with hard body shots and flurries but Ige caught on and started to counter Kattar. Ultimately it was a matter of cardio that led Calvin Kattar to a Unanimous Decision victory with the judges scoring the main event 49-46 x 2 and 48-47 in favor of Kattar. This win extends Kattar’s streak to 2 and snaps Ige’s win streak of 6. Who’s next?
