Jamal Adams has been rumored to have his days in New York numbered for nearly four months. Now, the long-awaited move has finally been finalized. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets have dealt their starting safety to Seattle in exchange for Bradley McDougald, the Seahawks’ next two first-round picks, and a 2021 third-rounder.

The Jets are also sending a 2022 fourth-round pick to the Seahawks.

Reports have rumored Adams to be on a few teams’ radars, with the most notable clubs to miss out on him being the Ravens and the Cowboys. He was on the trade block before the 2020 NFL Draft, which would’ve given the Jets another first-round pick. However, they waited to capitalize on the demand later and get not one but two first-round selections.

The Seahawks are also sending McDougald, their starting safety, to Florham Park as a part of the deal. McDougald has started all but two Seattle games in the last two seasons. The Kansas product broke out during his third year with the NFC West runners-up, allowing a passer rating of just 58.8 on 57 targeted passes, an improvement from the 110.1 rating he allowed in 2018.

McDougald went undrafted in the 2013 Draft before signing with the Chiefs. Kansas City waived him mid-season, with Tampa Bay acquiring him. McDougald was the regular starter at safety for the Buccaneers in two of three seasons with the organization.

He’s likely to be a starter in the Jets secondary in 2020 alongside Marcus Maye. Ashtyn Davis, Bennett Jackson, Matthias Farley, and Anthony Cioffi make up the rest of the depth chart at the position.

Jamal Adams came into the league with New York’s sixth overall pick in 2017. Needless to say, he had an immediate impact, taking the league by storm. The former LSU Tiger has been voted to the Pro Bowl in each of the last two years and was a First Team All-Pro in 2019.

Over three seasons with the Jets, Adams recorded 12 sacks, 6.5 of which came last season. In addition, he was equally as efficient in pass coverage with an allowed passer rating of 75.2 in 38 pass attempts against him.
