The 2020 Season for the Chicago Bears will depend a lot on the defense. Players like Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks will be the main reason why the Bears will have a successful 2020 Season. While having said that, there are also three specific players that will be key factors for how far the Chicago Bears can go in the upcoming season. The quarterback position will always be very important; but the Bears will have to depend, like always, on running the ball and having a top-five defense.
Roquan Smith was taken eighth overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. While he has shown flashes of being worthy of that selection, more often than not, he has disappeared. Hopefully he can return to his natural self and be the sideline to sideline linebacker that the Bears need in 2020. The potential is clearly there with him, he just needs to find himself again. For example, the first game of the 2019 season against the Packers, he was the games most valuable player for the Bears. Flying all over the field and destroying the running and the screen games with ease. Then he disappeared and looked like he wanting nothing to do with contact. That has to change this season.
David Montgomery’s rookie year had its ups and downs for a variety of reasons. One of them being Head coach Matt Nagy. His lack of love for the running game is very evident in his play calling. If a running play only gets two yards, that basically means the end of running the ball for the rest of the half! That’s so frustrating and needs to change for the Bears to have a successful 2020 Season. The other thing that completely confuses me, is why don’t the Bears throw the ball to Montgomery? His best traits coming out of Iowa St, were clearly breaking tackles and his pass catching ability. So let’s hope they use David Montgomery the correct way this year.
The Chicago Bears decided to let Prince Amukamara go this offseason. And then drafted his replacement in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. I believe they made a good decision here, but the Bears opponents will be targeting the rookie a lot in 2020. For one, Kyle Fuller is a known playmaker that NFL quarterbacks will want to stay away from. So Jaylon Johnson will have to be ready for that. If he isn’t, the 2020 Season will be very frustrating. Is that too much for a rookie to handle? Probably yes. But I know Jaylon Johnson has the talent and toughness to fight for his team. If these three players can have the season I believe they can, the Chicago Bears will have a first class ticket the Super Bowl my friends.
