Ole Miss Rebels Add New Weapon to 2020 Roster

The Ole Miss Rebels continue to rebuild their reputation after missing out on postseason play for three straight seasons. That rebuild is now in the hands of Lane Kiffin. Considered by many as an offensive genius, Kiffin will have as many weapons this season as he could ever need.

One of the best ways in which Kiffin and his new staff have improved the team is through the transfer portal. They secured signings or commitments from a pair of transfer tight ends earlier in the cycle. The newest member of the 2020 squad comes from an in-conference rival.

Who is Dionte Marks?

Dionte Marks played last year for the Florida Gators… kinda. The freshman out of Deland, FL appeared in just two games, racking up no catches. But that output in a strong Gators team isn’t indicative of his talent.

The 6’2 wide receiver caught 45 balls for just under 1000 yards and 11 touchdowns. That output helped Deland High School secure a Florida high school playoff berth in 2018. His athletic ability isn’t a question either.

Apart from playing football, Marks ran track as a sprinter in high school. His 40-yard time clocked in the 4.3-second range. At a combine-style event in 2018, Marks leapt well beyond the markers, hopping a *cool* 11 feet and 3 inches.

Does Marks Fit In?

Marks picked the Ole Miss Rebels after committing to the University of Central Florida just days before. After being recruited by new Ole Miss offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby out of high school, he was convinced enough to make the move across the conference.

Marks joins a pretty stacked wide receiver room. The lanky speedster will be a good complement to Elijah Moore, Jonathan Mingo, and Demarcus Gregory… If he gets to play, that is.

There is still a question mark about Marks’ eligibility when he gets to Oxford. He isn’t a high-profile player trying to join a high-flying team, so he likely won’t get the benefit of the NCAA’s mercy. With that said, Rebels fans may have to wait until 2021 to see Marks take the field.
