Kadarius Calloway made a shocking decision and has committed to Alabama. Many expected Calloway to be a lock for Mississippi State, but the three star prospect from Philadelphia, MS has flipped. Additionally, his change came with some backlash from Starkville faithful after what he said in a recent interview.
In the interview clip he makes it a point to say that he wants to make the NFL as a first rounder and not fall in the draft. He says that Nick Saban’s ability to create first round talent is what influenced him most. One specific alumni in the NFL ranks took notice.
Darius Slay clearly feels the same way most fans do about the situation. Slay played football at Mississippi State and knows first hand that where you are drafted isn’t what makes you a great player. The ability to showcase your talent is what makes you elite. Slay, a second round selection by the Detroit Lions in 2013, is a three time Pro Bowler and an All Pro. Moreover, if Calloway had payed a little more attention he would know that MSU produced not one, not two, but three first rounders in 2019.
The odds are that Calloway will not get the opportunity to play right away on a loaded roster in Tuscaloosa. Plus, he has yet to be declared with a single position. Alabama’s great roster, paired with he fact that Calloway will need to find a spot to play in, will make it very difficult for him to shine right away. Whereas at Mississippi State he could compete for a spot right away at both defensive back and wide receiver after coming in with the class of 2021.
What do you think about Kadarius Calloway flipping his commitment?
