GAME HIGHLIGHTS AND BREAKDOWN

SPIKEBALLTOM’S ‘THE POSITIVES AND NEEDS IMPROVEMENT’ SECTION

Giles Only ‘Bright’ Spot In Loss

The Kings look terrible, start slow, and lose ANOTHER game they needed to win.

The Kings started off the game with a botched lay-up, and fell down 7-0 immediately. The Magic never looked back, holding a 36 point lead at one point.

Sacramento never held the lead and lost 132-116.

The Kings gave up 44 points in the 1st quarter. 78 points in the first half.

From SacTown Royalty, “The Magic have averaged 25.9 points per game in first quarters this season, which is the second-lowest average in the NBA. The 44 points they scored against the Kings on Sunday tied their franchise record.

GAME STATS

‘THE POSITIVE

Giles Continues To Grow

Sacramento’s high scorer and only player to score over 14 points was Harry Giles III.

Giles scored a career high 23 points on 9/11 field goals in 20 minutes of action. In addition to 8 rebounds, and 5-6 from the free throw line.

Giles also looked to be bigger and stronger. A positive sign for the Kings and Giles going into the future.

Da’Quan Jeffries Looks Good Again

Da’Quan Jeffries is using his playing time WELL.

Against the Magic, Jeffries played 12 minutes, scored 12 points on 5-5 FG, 2-2 FT. In addition, Jeffries committed no fouls and no turnovers!

‘NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

LACK OF HEART, CONSISTENCY

Sacramento showed great grit and tenacity during their multiple comebacks against the Spurs on Friday. However, they showed NONE of that against the Magic on Sunday.

The Kings lacked heart in battling back and showing they REALLY wanted a win. We know they want to win… but sometimes that doesn’t translate well to the viewers at home.

No Three Point Shooting, No Pace

The Kings shot 8-28 from three point range – 28%. That was compared to 48% from deep by the the Magic.

The Kings only scored 11 fast break points. Pace and three point shooting is what the foundation the Kings offense is built upon… and that foundation is a bit suspect at the moment.

I originally predicted this to be a WIN for the Kings. That was incorrect.

PART 1 PART 2  PART 3 PART 4 SPIKEBALLTOM’S SACRAMENTO KINGS SEASON RE-START PREVIEW

SACRAMENTO MISSES HUGE OPPORTUNITY IN PLAYOFF HUNT

With the New Orleans Pelicans loss to the Utah Jazz on Thursday, Sacramento was presented a HUGE opportunity in their playoff hunt.

With Sacramento’s loss on Friday to the Spurs they missed a huge opportunity. The same can be said on Sunday against the Magic.

UPCOMING KINGS SCHEDULE

The Kings play the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday 8/4 at 11:30am PST.

Sacramento still has a small chance to make the 9th seed in the western conference.

The Kings essentially NEED a win and lots of help from other teams to stay in the playoff hunt!

GO KINGS!
