The UFC is back with more action this Saturday in Las Vegas. Darren Stewart fights Maki Pitolo in a middleweight bout that is sure to entertain. Ahead of this bout, I take a look at each fighter and give my prediction for how I think the fight will go. Who do you have winning this one?!
England’s Darren Stewart is looking to get back amongst the win column on Saturday night. After a disappointing spell since signing for the UFC, Stewart believes that finally being full-time in MMA will help him reap the rewards.
Last time out, Stewart had a strange situation. He was scheduled to fight on the Woodley vs Edwards card, but due to Covid-19, the UFC moved the bout to a Cage Warriors card. This was to ensure both men got to fight. Stewart came up short, losing by unanimous decision to Bartosz Fabiński. The loss is his first since a controversial loss to UFC wunderkind, Edmen Shahbazyan. Stewart is the first, and only, man to take Shahbazyan to the judges and came close to handing him his first loss.
Maki Pitolo first appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series. After impressing in his bout with slick boxing and beautiful body-work, Maki got the win via body shots to earn his UFC contract.
Next up was a close loss to Callan Potter. Maki admitted the size of the event at UFC 243: Whittaker vs Adesanya may have gotten to him. Since that loss, Pitolo has come back with a very impressive win over Charles Byrd. Another up-and-comer, Byrd came out fast and aggressive, which resulted in Maki catching Byrd and getting his opponent down. Once down, Maki followed up with crushing ground and pound. Will Maki be able to repeat that dominant performance against Stewart?
Stewart vs Pitolo Fight Prediction
I can see this being a slugfest and a sleeper fight on the card. In terms of breakdowns, there’s not too much to be done on these two. Both are relatively young for the sport and have a long way to go. However, both have a very bright future ahead of them.
I believe Darren Stewart could use his experience to help edge it his way. However, I just feel Maki Pitolo is the more well rounded Mixed Martial Artist.
Stewart vs Pitolo result: I see Pitolo winning via decision.
