Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Philadelphia 76ers All-Star power forward will undergo surgery to remove a loose body in his left knee. Simmons was first injured against the Washington Wizards after coming down awkwardly on a rebound.
If Simmons has to miss an extended amount of time, this is a devastating blow for the 76ers with the playoffs starting soon. Brett Brown had been using Simmons at power forward with Shake Milton playing point guard. Now, Al Horford will have to come back into the starting lineup to fill in for Simmons. Horford has largely struggled this season as he hasn’t been able to adapt the 76ers’ scheme.
While a timetable is not clear, it’s known that Simmons will have to leave the NBA bubble to undergo surgery. This likely means that he will miss at the least the start of the playoffs, and possibly the rest of the season. Hopefully he’ll be able to return to play and help the 76ers soon.
Simmons is averaging 16.4 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 8.0 apg, and 2.1 spg this season as he earned his second all-star nod back in February.
