The Bucs Are Swept By Tigers; Get Day Off Tomorrow

The Bucs came close to avoiding the sweep, however, their bats really shut down after the 4th inning. Detroit did a great job of holding the Pirates’ bats early. Pittsburgh’s bullpen made a great effort as well. However, the Pirates were swept for a second time this year.

After two very high scoring games against the Tigers, the Pirates were able to slow down Detroit’s bats. Previously, game-one saw a total of 30 runs and in yesterday’s game, there were 16 runs.

Bucs’ pitcher Steven Brault pitched two solid innings, setting up Chris Stratton. Stratton struck out six in three innings, however, he gave up a run.

Neither team scored until the middle innings and the Bucs got it started on an Erik Gonzalez RBI single in the 4th, scoring Colin Moran. Gonzalez has been a staple to Pittsburgh’s offense lately, batting .353 so far.

The Tigers answered and tied the game in the 5^th inning when Austin Romine singled to center that scored Victor Reyes.

Detroit scored again in the 8^th inning after Miguel Cabrera laced a single to center, scoring Jonathan Schoop. Following that, the Bucs threatened in the bottom half of the inning with two on and two out, however they couldn’t get the job done.

Next, the Bucs couldn’t hold on in the bottom of the 9^th and went down 1-2-3. Pittsburgh was outscored 30 -19 in the series. The bullpen did a great job of limiting the damage today and kept the Bucs in the game.

A Day Off

Tomorrow the Bucs get a much-needed day off. The St. Louis Cardinals have a positive Covid-19 test in their organization. Pittsburgh could definitely use a free day to regroup after getting swept for a second time this season.

The Cardinals series may pick up on Tuesday if all goes well, however, tomorrow’s game is postponed.
