Who is ready for history to be made?! Sparta Sports and Entertainment is making history on Saturday, August 15th, by debuting the first-ever sanctioned BKMMA fights inside the United States. This monumental event will be one for the ages. You cannot afford to miss it!
In addition to the BKMMA action, Sparta S&E will also be putting on traditional MMA, kickboxing, and boxing, brought to you by Airtight Boxing! Without further ado, let’s take a look at the bouts that the fight gods have blessed us with!
**Updates: There have been some last minute changes on this card due to fights getting pulled. This event will now have 13 fights instead of 15.
Sparta BKMMA Fights
Michael Santos vs Gene Perez
Professional BKMMA- 155 pounds
Michael Santos trains at the prestigious Elevation Fight Team gym in Denver, Colorado. He is 2-3 as a professional MMA fighter, with his last fight resulting in a loss to Edwin Chavez at LFA 79 back in 2019. Santos should be a familiar name for Sparta fans. His first professional fight was a third-round loss to rising UFC star Youssef Zalal at SCL 61. Will “Bolo” be able to pick up his third professional win?
Gene Perez co-owns his own gym, Perez Fighting Systems with his brother, which he also coaches and trains at. Gene has a 7-11 professional MMA record with 19 professional boxing matches under his belt. He is coming off of two straight losses by submission. Gene will be fighting on this card with his brother, Derek, who will be fighting in the co-main event under BKMMA rules. Can Gene help cement his family’s legacy in MMA history books by winning the first-ever sanctioned Sparta BKMMA fight?
Andy Perez vs Derek Perez
Professional BKMMA- 155 pounds
Andy Perez trains at APEX Mixed Martial Arts in Tucson, Arizona. He has a 7-11 record as a professional MMA fighter. Andy is coming off of a winless 2019 that saw him drop four contests. Can he return to the win column this Saturday?
Derek Perez is the co-owner of Perez Fighting Systems with his brother Gene Perez. He is 3-8 in professional MMA bouts with an additional 17 professional boxing matches under his belt. Derek is coming off of a January loss to Josh Wang-Kim at WFC 119. Will Derek be able to pick up the win at Sparta BKMMA along with his brother Gene and earn his place in MMA history?

Zac Haynes vs Mario Rodriguez
Ammy MMA Title Fight- 135 pounds
Zac Haynes is 6-2 in his amateur MMA career. He trains at Bring It Back Boxing and Summit County Jiu Jitsu. Zac is no stranger to Sparta events, as he last fought for them in 2018. In that fight, Zac won by unanimous decision over Anel Dudo. He lost his last fight to William Tucker by submission. Will Zac return to his winning ways and earn a title belt in the process?
Mario Rodriguez is a Sparta regular, having completed all of his career fights with the promotion. He has a 3-2 amateur MMA record and is coming into this fight on the strength of two straight wins. Mario trains at A Family Affair Boxing. Can Mario get another spectacular knockout win and walk away as the champion?
JD Cathcart vs Namir Singleton
Ammy MMA- 155 pounds
JD Cathcart is 1-2 as an amateur MMA fighter. This will be his second fight for Sparta in just one month. In his last fight, JD lost to Jacque Broussard by armbar after controlling much of the action. Can JD rebound with a win and improve to 2-2?
Namir Singleton trains at Victory MMA in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He has a 3-2 amateur MMA record. This will be Namir’s fifth fight for Sparta, having last fought for them in September of 2019. At SCL 75, Namir came out and won by knockout in 10 seconds. Will Namir put up another dominant performance?
Carlos Rivera vs Kenyan Davis
Ammy MMA- 135 pounds
Carlos Rivera and Kenyan Davis will be going at it in a 135-pound MMA scrap. Like Singleton, Carlos Rivera trains at Victory MMA. Rivera will be making his MMA debut. Kenyan Davis will be fighting out of Elevation Fight Team. Like his opponent, this will be Kenyan’s first MMA fight. Which fighter will walk away with their first MMA win?
AJ Trefonas vs Al Smith- CANCELED
Ammy MMA- 155 pounds
**Update: Al Smith has pulled out of the fight against AJ Trefonas. Unfortunately a replacement was not found and AJ will not be fighting on this card.
AJ Trefonas trains at Trials MMA in Fort Collins, Colorado. He will be making his MMA debut. Trefonas is a brown belt in BJJ under Fabiano Scherner and has been training at Trials MMA since 2011. When asked if he would prefer this fight to go to the ground, Trefonas said “Nah. I’m comfortable wherever the fight takes place. Wherever it goes, I’ll be looking for a finish.” Will Trefonas get the finish he is looking for?
Airtight Boxing Matches
Darien Robinson vs Ramiro Figueroa
Ammy Boxing Title Fight- 155 pounds
The first title fight of the night will feature Darien Robinson vs Ramiro Figueroa for the 155-pound boxing belt.
Darien Robinson is making his return to the Sparta ring after a convincing win at Sparta Wyoming in July. Darien trains at Cies MMA in Colorado Springs. He made his boxing debut in July and quickly showed he deserves a chance at a championship. Will Darien continue his unbeaten streak, earning a title belt in the process?
Ramiro Figueroa will be making his third Sparta appearance this year. He has a 1-1 record in boxing after the first two contests. Can he improve to 2-1 and earn a championship belt in the process?
Khortni Kamyron vs Barb Ciesnolevicz
Ammy Boxing- 147 pounds
Khortni Kamryon is a kickboxer that made her boxing debut on short notice in July after her original kickboxing bout fell through. She won that fight by unanimous decision over Chelsea Rappleyea. Can Khortni make it two boxing wins in a row?
Barb “The Outlaw” Ciesnolevicz will be making her boxing debut after earning a 4-2 amateur MMA record. She trains at Cies MMA, where she is the assistant BJJ coach and teaches their women’s only BJJ class. She possesses a purple belt in BJJ and has been training MMA since 2012. “The Outlaw” will be looking to showcase her striking abilities and prove to everyone she is a well-rounded fighter. Can Barb walk away with a win in her first boxing match?
Tomas Ornelas vs John Bustamante
Ammy Boxing- 140 pounds
Tomas Ornelas and John Bustamente will be fighting in a 140-pound boxing contest. Tomas Ornelas trains at House of Pain Boxing and will be making his boxing debut. John Bustamente will have a tough out against Ornelas but will earn a lot of respect if he can come away with the win. Which fighter will walk away with a win this Saturday?
Tamika Caldwell vs Maliah Paculan
Ammy Boxing- 125 pounds
Tamika Caldwell will fight Maliah Paculan in a 125-pound boxing match. Tamika Caldwell trains at Hustle Hard Boxing Academy in Colorado Springs. She will be making her boxing debut against the experienced Maliah Paculan. Paculan trains at Stick and Move Boxing in Westminster, Colorado. Can Tamika earn a win in her first boxing match ever? Or will Maliah spoil her debut and add another win to her resume?
Fernando Acosta vs Isaiah Trujillo

Fernando Acosta and Isaiah Trujillo will be featured in a 152-pound boxing contest. Acosta trains at TopNotch Boxing in Greeley, Colorado. Trujillo trains at A Family Affair Boxing. Who will pick up the win in this 152-pound war?

Chris Arena vs Elias Egozi
Ammy Kickboxing- 175 pounds
Chris Arena trains at Muay Thai of Colorado in Denver. Sparta fans last saw Chris win at SCL 80 earlier this year. Can Chris earn his second Sparta win this year?
Elias Egozi spends time training at High Altitude Martial Arts and the Elevation Fight Team gym. He gets to train with some word-class strikers and will be looking to show the knowledge he has gained from them. Will Egozi be able to pick up the win?
Elias Rodriguez vs Kalleb Haile
Ammy Kickboxing- 130 pounds
Elias Rodriguez will be fighting Kalleb Haile in the other kickboxing match of the evening. Elias Rodriguez trains at High Altitude Martial Arts. He trains with some high-level strikers. Sparta fans last saw Rodriguez earn a win at Sparta Wyoming. Kalleb Haile trains at Muay Thai of Colorado. He will be making his Sparta debut. Will Elias earn his second Sparta win in a row? Or will Kalleb be victorious in his Sparta debut?
