The Blue Jays were able to outduel the Marlins in extras last night. A.J. Cole got the win and Stephen Tarpley was charged with the loss. Travis Shaw walked it off for the Blue Jays with the bases loaded. Anthony Bass blew the save in the ninth on a three-run home run by Francisco Cervelli.
Ryu Looking Good
Ryu dominated Marlins’ hitters. Through six innings, Ryu gave up two hits, two walks, and struck out seven. Ryu sequenced his pitches well, utilizing the different quadrants of the plate. In these sequences, Ryu would attack high with his fastball then away with his offspeed.
Bo Knows Bombs
Bo Bichette went 1-4 with a three-run home run. Bichette’s home run came on a 1-2 fastball, middle-up. This is Bichette’s second home run of the season.
Bo not only picked up his second home run, but he also doubled his RBI count on the season to six.
Guerrero Jr. Struggles
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did not have a good day. Going 0-4 with three ground outs and a pop-out, Guerrero’s struggles continue. Frustration could be seen by Guerrero in his final at-bat, slamming the bat down. Guerrero’s launch angle sits at 6.7 degrees, well below league average.
Runners in Scoring Position
The Blue Jays have struggled with runners in scoring position all year. Before last night, the Blue Jays were batting .193 with runners in scoring position.
The umpire behind the plate was anything but good. The umpire expanded the zone and missed border pitches all night. The most egregious came in the bottom of the 10th when Biggio walked on a ball clearly in the zone.
Rookie flamethrower Nate Pearson makes his true home debut, dueling Jordan Yamamoto.
