Houston Rockets point guard Russell Westbrook has been diagnosed with a strained quad injury. The injury will sideline the star point guard for the remainder of the regular season.
According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, his timetable for return is currently unknown.
With the postseason looming ahead, Westbrooks’ absence is a major blow to the Houston Rockets. The Rockets were beginning to gain some traction in the playoff race, jumping up to the fourth seed with some statement victories over the Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers.
The Rockets are currently sitting comfortably in the fourth seed and are expected to play either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Utah Jazz in the first round. Russell Westbrooks’ strained quad injury opens up the possibility of him missing the entirety of the first round. As a result, his absence could prove to be critical to the Rocket’s playoff ventures.
