The coalition started off with nine professional sports franchises involved. It has since grown to twenty professional sports franchises!
According to SacTown Royalty, The Kings will also be partnering with When We All Vote. Who will be creating a customized voter registration portal. Similarly, RISE will offer voter registration workshops.
Kings Owner Vivek Ranadive Says Voting Should ‘Be as easy as getting an Uber’
Kings owner Vivek Ranadive often uses his platform to create positive action.
For example, Randive has been outspoken and taken action on many social causes he believes in.
“”Let’s make voting as easy as ordering an Uber,” Ranadive told ESPN in a phone interview this week. “And now we’ve fully entered the digital era, where the world’s largest book seller has no bookstores and the world’s largest taxi company has no cars, and so on. But we’re still in the agricultural era in terms of how we vote. So it’s time to bring it up to speed.”
Get Out And VOTE!
The mission is to get as many people out to vote as possible!
The Sacramento Kings announced that their employees get a paid day off for all election days.
The Kings are one of four NBA franchises to open up the door to their arena for voters. Along with the catalyst Atlanta Hawks, the Detroit Pistons, and the Milwaukee Bucks.
“I would say that we’re going to reach tens of millions of people collectively,” Ranadive said. “So I think again it’s just getting people to understand — just eliminating the friction — so they can do this easily and then making them aware.”
Setting An Example For Others To Follow
“We started this, as you know, a couple years ago, and when I bought the Kings, I laid out a mission statement for the Kings, and the mission was to build a winning franchise that enhances the lives of those it touches and leaves the world a better place,” Ranadive said.
The Kings franchise and Ranadive have often been lambasted for how the basketball side of the Kings operates.
Regardless, Ranadive has shown time and time again he ‘puts his money where his mouth is’. Especially when it comes to issues of social justice, change and leadership!
