The Miami Dolphins have a few potential kick and punt returners other than Jakeem Grant. Barry Jackson has said in a tweet that “they will also look at new slot wide receiver Chester Rogers and Auburn rookie cornerback Noah Igbinoghene as return options”. We will break down each of these players as athletes and their background as a returner in the NFL and NCAA.

Jakeem Grant

The Miami Dolphins drafted Jakeem Grant in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Since Grant was drafted by Dolphins he has been their main kick and punt returner. In his four seasons as the Dolphins punt returner, Grant has two touchdowns, 589 return yards, and he averaged 9.2 yards per return in his four seasons. He was not the starting punt returner for the team last season though, as he took a back up roll. In his four seasons as the kick returner, Grant returned two touchdowns, 2,031 returning yards, and 25.1 yards per kick return. Overall, Grant is going to be the main returner for the Miami Dolphins, but per Barry Jackson, he has some competition going into the season.

Chester Rogers

Chester Rogers signed with the Miami Dolphins this season, to fill in for Albert Wilson and Allen Hurns. Rogers was a kick and punt returner for the past four seasons for the Indianapolis Colts. In his four seasons as a punt returner, Rogers had zero touchdowns, 551 return yards, and 9.2 return yards per game. Rogers was never the full-time starter for the Colts but continued to return punts and kicks for the team. In his four seasons as the kick returner, Rogers had zero touchdowns, 42 yards, and 8.2 yards per return. Overall, Rogers was never a truly talented returner for the Colts, but he was decent and could compete for the returning position on the team.

Noah Igbinoghene

Noah Igbinoghene returned for Auburn for three seasons, until he entered the NFL Draft. He was never a punt returner, but he was the main kick returner for Auburn for three seasons. In his three seasons as the punt returner, Igbinoghene returned two touchdowns, 1,199 returning yards, and averaged 27.3 yards per return. Igbinoghene could be one of the kick returners for the Dolphins with Grant. Overall, Igbinoghene was an impressive kick returner and has a good chance to compete for a starting kick returner spot this season.

Noah Igbinoghene and Jakeem Grant have the best chances to be the Dolphins kick returners this season, while Chester Rogers and Jakeem Grant have the best chance to be the team’s punt returners this season. Overall, it will be a competitive battle between all three players, but at the end of the day, someone has to get the job.
