The Blue Jays take series opener against the Orioles, by a final of 7-2. Hyun Jin Ryu gets the win while Alex Cobb gets the loss. The Blue Jays have now taken the series opener for three straight series.

Ryu in form

Blue Jays ace Hyun Jin Ryu looked phenomenal. Ryu went six innings, gave up four hits, a run, three strikeouts and no walks. In August, Ryu has a 1.06 ERA through 17 innings and 18 strikeouts.

Biggio Blasts Another

Cavan Biggio went 3-5 with a home run. This is Biggio’s sixth home run on the season. Biggio drove in three runs in the ballgame.

Bloops and a Blast

In the first two innings, Alex Cobb only needed a total of 12 pitches. In the third, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Joe Panik, and Biggio hit three infield singles. Then, Randal Grichuk blasted a three-run bomb.

Since his birthday, Grichuk is hitting .438 with seven RBIs.

Premium Pitching

The Blue Jays gave up only a single walk in the game. Rafael Dolis worked a clean seventh with weak contact. Anthony Bass worked a clean eighth with two strikeouts. In order for the Blue Jays to be successful, their pitching needs to remain a premium.

Up Next

Blue Jays top prospect Nate Pearson gets the ball, facing veteran Wade LeBlanc. Pearson is coming off a rough outing, lasting only two and a third innings, giving up five hits, walking four and allowing four earned runs.
