Hurricanes Svechnikov (Leg) Ruled Out of Series Ahead of Game Three

Andrei Svechnikov (leg) of the Carolina Hurricanes has been ruled out of the Hurricanes vs Bruins series ahead of game three. The Hurricanes lineup needs to be shuffled for the rest of their series against the Boston Bruins.

Svechnikov was injured late in game two after getting tangled up with Zdeno Chara of the Bruins and will have an MRI on his leg according to the head coach. Svechnikov’s injury could mean the return of Ryan Dzingel for the Hurricanes. Dzingel is out of tonight’s game three.

Aho and Teräväinen Need to Step Up

In a recent piece, I wrote that in order for the Hurricanes to be successful in the playoffs, their depth players would need to step up. But, Without Svechnikov for at least the rest of the series against the Bruins, names such as Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teräväinen will need to do their part.

Svechnikov played in 68 of the 70 games for the Hurricanes before the COVID-19 stoppage. The 20-year-old scored 24 goals and tallied 37 assists for a total of 61 points. He had a hot start to the Return to Play, scoring the first playoff hat trick in the Hurricanes history in game two of their series against the New York Rangers. Also, Teräväinen scored 15 goals and added 48 assists in 68 games before the stoppage.

But, the Hurricanes are not the only team that is dealing with injuries, though. David Pastrnak is out of game four. Pastrnak had one goal and an assist on the game-winning goal of game one. But, while he was celebrating, Pastrnak could be seen doubling over in pain. No details have emerged as to what the possible reason for his absence could be.

And, after practice on Sunday, the Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said the following:

‘He’s got his skates on out there. How does that bode for tomorrow? Not sure yet. Probably a little premature. Let’s see how he does in the morning. So I’d put him at I’d say 50/50 I guess, at best, right now. Of course, that could change over 24 hours.’
