Coming into the season, the potential of the Chicago White Sox lineup was evident. Through 23 games, however, it’s fair to say that the club has exceeded fans’ expectations. While Chicago can’t depend on the long ball forever, the rate at which its clobbering home runs is truly something to behold. In this article, we’re going to highlight just how special the White Sox’ recent stretch has been.
On Monday night, shortstop Tim Anderson went deep twice and Chicago coasted to a 7-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Amazingly enough, it was the 27-year-old stud’s second leadoff home run off Matthew Boyd in six days.
Yoan Moncada joined the party in the first inning with a solo shot, and Luis Robert socked two of his own to bring his RBI total to 13 for the campaign. Infield prospect Danny Mendick added a solo blast in the eighth inning to put Detroit out of its misery.
The White Sox’ offense is scorching hot
According to ESPN, the White Sox are tied for third in MLB with a total of 37 home runs. That tally trails the likes of the Angels, Yankees and Padres by just three for second place. Chicago also ranks in the top 10 in hits, total bases, batting average, SLG and OPS.
Monday’s home run barrage came approximately 24 hours after the White Sox made history in their series-finale win over the St. Louis Cardinals. For the second time in franchise history, the club hit four straight home runs. Moncada, Yasmani Grandal, Jose Abreu and Eloy Jimenez all went yard in consecutive at-bats in the fifth inning. Three of those home runs traveled over 400 feet, so it’s clear the team is locked in at the plate.
Unfortunately for fans in the Southside, there’s no telling if the pitching will improve. However, they can absolutely take solace in the fact that the White Sox’ young offense is already realizing its potential. If this ongoing power surge has told us anything, it’s that all of Chicago’s games will be must-see television moving forward. What more could fans want?
