Cage Warriors have announced three flyweight fights for CW114 which is the opening card of their unprecedented Trilogy Series.
Three separate nights of fighting will take place on consecutive days – starting on Thursday 26th September.
Numerous world title fights are scheduled to take place across the three shows and there’ll be appearances from some of the organisation’s biggest stars.
CW114 will the company’s first date back after the havoc wreaked by the Coronavirus pandemic. By the time the competitors set foot in the cage on fight night, it’ll have been more than six months since the promotion’s last show.
Whilst it’s a pivotal night for the company as a whole, it holds special significance for the flyweight division. There’s no fewer than three fights between 125ers and the title will be on the line in the main event.
Will a New Champion be Crowned?
Samir ‘The Silverback’ Faiddine will defend his 125lb strap against Luke ‘The Apocalypse’ Shanks in his first fight since he stopped Sam Creasey to become the flyweight king last year.
More than a year later, the 27-year-old will be eagerly anticipating getting back in the cage at Manchester’s BEC Arena.
Shanks has won six of his seven professional bouts to date and he’s currently on a 3-fight win streak after knocking out Pietro Menga in his last outing. The enforced break the sport was forced to take denied the 24-year-old Scotsman his original shot at The Silverback in March.
Faiddine, who has a professional record of 11-6, is a student of the MMA Factory – the Parisian gym that produced Francis Ngannou.
An Acid Test for the New Kid on the Block
Elsewhere on the card, young prospect Jake Hadley will make his Cage Warriors debut against Shaj Haque. ‘White Kong’ has won all five of his professional fights so far, most recently stopping Blaine O’Driscoll with a Rear Naked Choke at Bellator 227.
Haque is tough and durable though – he represents a real test for the prospect from Birmingham.
The 29-year-old is 10-4 in the pro ranks with all of his defeats coming via the scorecards. His most notable win came against the aforementioned former champion, Sam Creasey, in the latter part of 2016.
A second all-English affair
In the third flyweight fight of the evening; another good old domestic showdown between Liverpool’s Coner ‘The Hand Grenade’ Hignett and Adam ‘Apex’ Amarasinghe.
Hignett’s last two fights were against Jordan Wheater and Darren O’Gorman. ‘The Hand Grenade’ stopped both of them inside the distance with the Wheater stoppage coming particularly early – little over a minute into the first round.
‘The Apex’ made similarly quick work of his last opponent, Jake Bond.
Both men will be looking to build on their wins from CW113 to propel themselves up the rankings for a potential title fight down the line.
If we can take anything from their recent Cage Warriors appearances, it’s that this one could turn into a shoot out and may end early.
