After last night’s unfortunate loss, the Pirates found themselves in a pitching duel in the early innings of game two. Starter, Steven Brault had a great five innings of work where he struck out three.
The game was scoreless going into the 6th inning, however, the Indians broke it open on a Carlos Santana three-run homer. Santana had the controversial call last night on another three-run shot.
Dovydas Neverauskas gave up the home run to Santana, and his night ended after an inning. Geoff Hartlieb came in and had a solid inning, striking out two in the 7th.
Indian’s pitcher, Aaron Civale had the Pirates’ number and struck out five through seven innings of work. Civale also allowed just three hits to the Bucs.
The Indians Strike
With the bases loaded in the top of the 8th, Domingo Santana laced a bases-clearing double to give the Indians a commanding 6-0 lead. Bucs’ reliever, Tyler Bashlor loaded the bases with three walks in a row. Santana made him pay with two outs.
The only highlight of the game was Brault’s performance. Brault has yet to give up a run as a starter this year. Although his ERA is 3.00 as a reliever, he’s done a great job in the rotation.
As for the hitting, they couldn’t build momentum off his great play. Both teams were tied for hits with, however, the Indians made an impact late. Pittsburgh’s hitters had opportunities to score early, though they couldn’t get the job done.
The Bucs look to avoid the sweep tonight as they go up against the dangerous Shane Bieber who is 4-0 on the season.
