Curt Schilling Involved in Steve Bannon’s Border Wall Fraud Case

Former Diamondbacks and Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has been listed as a member of the advisory board for a Border Wall fundraiser, alleged to be used to defraud donors. The story broke Thursday morning after former White House aide Steve Bannon was arrested for allegedly conspiring to launder money and commit wire fraud with the “We Build The Wall” fundraiser.

In total, over $25 million was raised with Bannon allegedly using more than $1 million of that amount for personal benefit. While Bannon is pleading not guilty, the evidence seems to be stacked against him. As for Schilling, he has not yet been arrested, but that could certainly be a possibility.

Curt Schilling: The Person

Schilling has consistently been on the negative side of the news cycle since his retirement. He blew his entire $115 million career earnings starting a video game studio that went bankrupt. Schilling was also suspended and later fired from ESPN for Islamophobic, anti-semitic, and transphobic social media posts. More recently, the former ace has teased political runs and continued to use his Twitter to spread his conservative-leaning beliefs. Following broadcaster Thom Brennaman’s homophobic slur on live TV, Schilling vouched for his character replying to a since-deleted Jeff Passan tweet.

Curt Schilling: The Player

Schilling’s public persona is likely the reason he is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame. As one of the greatest postseason pitchers of all time, Schilling posted an 11-2 record with a 2.23 ERA. In 2001, Schilling won World Series MVP with the Diamondbacks starting three games with an ERA well under 2.00. His career-defining moment, however, was with Boston. Down three games to two in the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees, Schilling pitched with an injured and bleeding ankle. New York could only score one run off Schilling over the course of seven innings, sending the Sox to the World Series, where they would break their 86 year curse. Schilling won another ring with Boston in 2007 before announcing his retirement.
