The Houston Rockets went into game 2 knowing that the Oklahoma City Thunder would be a desperate team. Thunder already being down 0-2 knew that another lost and the series would be all but over. No team in NBA history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit.
The Houston Rockets had the lead late and a chance to practically put this series away. But some bad late decisions and bad luck have made this a series. This is the 3 reasons the Rockets lost game 3
Houston Rockets horrible shooting
The Rockets didn’t exactly light the world on fire in the last game. In this late-game lost they were even worse. The Rockets shot 15-50 from downtown for only 30 percent. They only made one more 3-pointer than the Thunder and that is a recipe for disaster. The Rockets will never be a knockdown 3-point shooting team but they can’t let the Thunder beat them or stay close to them from the arc.
Houston Rockets horrible decisions down the stretch
The Rockets have been great since small ball was formed at the trade deadline. This game a turnover made all the difference. With 24.4 seconds left PJ Tucker inbounded the ball to Gordon but the pass got away when Gordon slipped. On the very next play, Danuel House dropped into the lane to double Chris Paul which left Shai Gilgeous Alexander who made a wide-open 3-pointer. The Rockets of course would go on to lose in overtime.
Foul trouble and missed free throws
The Rockets were in foul trouble it seems for the entire game. The Thunder would go on to take 11 more free throws making seven more. Even when the Rockets got to the free-throw line they couldn’t make any of them. They only shot 69.6 from the line and House missed a free throw that would have put the Rockets up one late.
The Rockets squandered a chance to go up 3-0 but they still have a chance Monday at 3:00 CT to go up 3-1 and take complete control of the series. Harden did have a good overall game, Green continued his great play and even with all the issues the Rockets still could have won.
Game 4 Monday 3 CT as the Rockets look to go up 3-1.
