Ron Rivera’s Diagnoses

The team says that the cancer was detected from a self-care check. Luckily the cancer is “very treatable and curable, providing a good prognosis for coach Rivera for a full recovery.”

In a statement released by Washington, they said…
“For now, Coach has asked that the team keep things business as usual and remain focused, but a ‘Plan B’ is in place if it is determined that he should take some time off.”

Coaching Tenure

Before coming to Washington, Rivera was the head coach of the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South. During his nine years in Carolina, he has a coaching record of 76-63-1 and a Super Bowl birth in 2015. In 2013 and 2015 he was named associated Press Coach of the Year.

In 2019, Rivera was fired in week 12 after losing against, ironically, Washington. The 58-year-old coach was expected to try and turn around a Washington franchise that has been riddled with bad play. Not to mention the litany of off-field scandals that have plagued the franchise for over twenty years. Rivera will now have to battle Cancer as well as his weekly opponents. The team has named Jack Del Rio as a possible replacement for any time Rivera might miss.

Everyone here at Overtime Heroics wish coach Rivera a full and speedy recovery and hope he and his team have a competitive 2020 NFL season.
