Pirates Rally Back To Sweep Brewers In Three Games

The Pirates completed their threegame sweep of the Brewers, taking game three 5-4. After being down to the Brewers late in the game, they rallied back to collect their first sweep. Pittsburgh did everything right in this series, they pitched and hit well, and their defense was solid.

JT Brubaker has a solid outing for the Pirates today, going four innings with six strikeouts. Although he did give up the Brewers’ first two runs, he still had a fantastic game.

Early Lead

The Bucs played well however two key pieces to their offense left the game. Kevin Newman and Colin Moran. Moran was in concussion protocols after being run into at first base bay Avisail Garcia. And Newman came out with right lower-abdominal muscle discomfort.

Adam Frazier started in the 1st the scoring with an RBI single that scored Erik Gonzalez. In the 2nd, Jarrod Dyson notched a single to left that brought home Gregory Polanco.

The Brewers got on the board in the 4th thanks to a Justin Smoak double, Keston Hiura crossed home.

Milwaukee scored again in the 5th to tie the game off an Omar Narvaez single that scored Luis Urias. And in the 6th Smoak smacked a two-run homer that gave the Brewers a 4-2 lead.

Rally Back

The Bucs answered back Bryan Reynolds singled to right to scored JT Riddle to make it a one-run game. Pittsburgh put the final nail in the coffin when Polanco nailed his fourth homer of the year, this time it was a two-run blast.

The Pirates have themselves their first sweep of the year and their first three-game winning streak. A huge confidence boost for a team that was 4-17 coming into this series on Friday.

The Bucs have a day off tomorrow, and then they will be going to Chicago to face the 17-12 White Sox for two games. If the Pirates are able to come out and play like this for the majority of the year, they have a shot to gain some much-needed ground.
