Welcome to the Lake Show
Oh how the tables have turned. The Lakers are starting to look like championship contenders again. With a 2-1 lead going into game four of the first round, the Lakers looked ever so dominant, stringing together a 15-0 start against the Trailblazers (and 24-8 at one point, happy Mamba Day). You are now witnessing the Lake Show.
In this 15-0 start, you see some beautiful things, we see an Anthony Davis jumper, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope three, LeBron James three, Danny Green three and another AD jumper. Just dominant basketball by our Los Angeles Lakers. From being up 80-51 at the half, to being up by as many as 38 points, to winning the game by 20, the Lakers DOMINATED. Our shots are finally falling and it’s a great sight to see. LeBron shot 10-12 from the field (4-5 from deep) and AD shot 5-8 from the field. We also see Green and KCP put together MUCH better games than they have the last few games, both on 5-8 shooting, Green with 14 points, KCP with 12. Kyle Kuzma also found the basket in game 4, shooting 5-9 from deep and dropping in 18 points. Let’s not discredit the play of Alex Caruso either. Caruso has been a major factor in defending Damian Lillard and at times CJ McCollum.
What to Look Forward To
Playoff LeBron is here, baby! LeBron James is playing phenomenal basketball. He’s trusting his teammates to make shots and he’s building their overall confidence. He’s also averaging a triple double in this series (25.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 10.3 assists). James exited the game late in the third quarter with 30 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds. AD dropped in 18 points and tossed 5 rebounds and 5 assists to his stat line in 17 and a half minutes of play. Both superstars are playing exceptional basketball and gaining more confidence as the game continues. Davis only shot one three last night and was looking to get more of his mid-range shots, which is great to see.
Let’s look at the bigs for LA: JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard. Both played to their full ability last night. They were incredible. JaVale had 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks while Dwight scored 13 points on 5/7 shooting and grabbed 8 rebounds. Dwight ate the Portland defense alive.
Green, KCP and Kuz combined for 10 threes (5 for Kuzma alone). It’s great to see these players shots falling, for a total of 10-17 from deep. LeBron also shot 4-5 from the outside. The Lakers shot 43.6% from deep, which is a major jump from how they have been shooting from outside the arc. Let us also note that the Lakers set a new team playoff-record of 17 made threes.
If the play of LeBron, AD, KCP, Danny Green and Kuzma can keep this consistency, I don’t see any problem in the next round against the winner of OKC/Houston.
