Is such a quick turn-around a good or bad thing for the Champion? Who is this debuting Brazilian and why is she challenging for the belt?

Busy Champ Stamp

Like we already mentioned, Stamp Fairtex will be fighting a literal month after just competing in ONE: No Surrender back in July.

This is definitely an unusual situation given the circumstances that the promotion finds itself in and makes some kind of sense. But is it wise?

There’s a reason why fighters only compete less than five times in any given year. The toll their bodies take during training and the fight itself takes months to recover.

Fortunately, this isn’t much of an issue in Stamp’s case because she completely dominated Sunisa in her last fight. It can be argued that she didn’t take much damage and should be good to go for A New Breed.

But just because we don’t see any damage, doesn’t mean there isn’t any. If Stamp should not perform to her usual standard, look to that as a contributing factor.

Capitalizing on First Defense Jitters

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues is a Brazilian Muay Thai fighter making her debut at ONE: A New Breed.

Who is she and what can she do against the first two-sport champion in the promotion?

Currently ranked #3 in the WBC Muay Thai Flyweight rankings, Rodrigues isn’t some random girl Chatri picked off the street.

She’s dedicated to the sport, starting at 14 in her native Brazil and moving to Thailand when she turned 20.

Though we might not have much tape on her fights, her skills are proven, and might be enough to give the Thais a nasty shock. But more than fighting prowess, the mind game is Allycia’s biggest weapon.

No matter how many fans and accolades we all heap on Stamp’s meteoric rise and historic achievements; we all have to remember that she has yet to successfully defend her titles.

The first time Stamp had to actually defend her titles she lost. So there’s now a question of whether the Queen of ONE Super Series can actually defend her throne.

Who Takes It?

All the pressure is on Stamp for this fight. All the advantages she had in the Sunisa fight are gone. Her opponent is young, fresh, and doesn’t have three years of ring rust on them.

Though weight might play a factor in the fight as Allycia will be coming up a division from her comfort zone. But if past history in this promotion is anything to go by, the smaller competitor usually comes out on top.

Stamp’s seemingly long reign on top of ONE Super Series is due in part to the thin competition on the women’s side.

This fight is surprisingly close on paper despite us not knowing anything much about the challenger.

This fight is her chance to prove that she doesn’t just take belts – she keeps them too.
