Blue Jays Acquire Taijuan Walker

The Blue Jays acquire Taijuan Walker from the Seattle Mariners. The Blue Jays acquire Taijuan Walker for cash considerations or for a player to be named later. Walker has an ERA of 4.00 in 27 innings and 25 strikeouts. His WHIP is 1.074, as well as having a strikeout to walk ratio of 3-1.

Blue Jays in Win Now Mode

This trade shows the Blue Jays are in win now mode. Walker is a rental, as his contract is up after this year. Walker has a five pitch mix, including a fastball, curveball, sinker, cutter and split finger. In addition, Walker is a fastball, cutter and split finger pitcher.

Ross Atkins says of Walker, “He’s got four pitches he’s getting swings and misses with. Another piece to our rotation we’re excited to add.”

In order to make this move possible, the Blue Jays placed Trent Thornton on the 45 day IL. Thornton has been diagnosed with elbow inflammation and is getting a second opinion from Dr Andrews.

Blue Jays Rotation

The Blue Jays rotation is now stronger with Walker. The rotation now includes Ryu, Roark, Chase Anderson, Taijuan Walker. Nate Pearson will resume throwing this weekend and Shoemaker is week to week.

Per Ross Atkins, Walker could make his debut as, “early as tomorrow.” The Blue Jays have no starter listed for tomorrow’s game.
