As the Boston Bruins struggle against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Bruins need to sign Torey Krug. Since being signed as a free agent in 2011 Krug, has been one of the organization’s most consistent defensemen. In this post, we will review three reasons why the Bruins need to come to terms with Torey Krug.
One Of The Teams Most Consistent Players
The Bruins signed Torey Krug as a free agent in 2011. The Michigan State product has logged 523 career games scoring 67 goals and 270 assists for 337 points.
As for the playoffs, Krug is one of the leagues best. Since joining the Bruins he has played in 73 playoff games scoring 11 goals and 41 assists for 52 points. On the power play, he is one of the team’s most successful scorers. These are just two of the reasons the club needs to sign him to a long_term deal.
Chara’s Skills Have Diminished
In the past couple of seasons, Zdeno Chara‘s play has diminished. Fans are calling him a liability on the ice. He still brings a physical game to the Bruins lineup.
However, once the season ends Zdeno Chara becomes an unrestricted free agent. This is where the Bruins need to decide which player has more value in the long term. Look for Chara to retire or not be resigned once the playoffs end.
Defensive Skills Are Questionable
Many Bruins fans consider Torey Krug a liability on defense. If Zdeno Chara retires, the Bruins top six will be Charlie McAvoy,/Brandon Carlo, Matt Grzelcyk,/ Connor Clifton, Jeremy Lauzon,/John Moore.
On paper, they’re a young group. As for the playoffs, they lack experience. Depending on what Zdeno Chara does the Bruins need to resign Krug. Currently, Krug makes $ 4,000,000 on the open market. Resigning him will take at least $12,000,000 dollars on a long term deal.
The rewards on resigning Torey Krug are his offensive skills. He’s a legitimate threat on the power play. If you ask me the team is a lot better with him than without him.
