Former Special Teams Coordinator for New England was hired to be the new head coach of the New York Giants. There have been plenty of reports about how Head Coach Joe Judge has been running training camp. Here are a Giants fans first impressions…
1. Coach Knows Who You Are
Judge has removed the names from the backs of all the practice jerseys for the Giants. Now, there is just their number. At first glance, this doesn’t seem to be such a big deal. However, it actually has a strong effect on the morale of the players. It shows the players that coaches really are taking time to memorize each jersey number and the player that it corresponds with.
2. Run Laps for Mistakes
For mistakes and penalties, Judge makes the players run laps. He wants them to understand that making a mistake may cost the Giants games. Running laps is extra motivation to be cautious and careful of how the players are playing in practice. If they make less errors and commit less penalties in practice, that will surely translate to games.
3. Tennis Balls for Offensive Lineman
On that same note, tennis balls have been taped to the hands of all the offensive lineman, to prevent them from committing holding penalties. Giants fans know that holding penalties have definitely been a problem for the Giants in the past. Judge understands that those must be minimized. With one of, if not the best running back in the league in Saquon Barkely, Judge understands that his offensive lineman can’t be responsible for the nullification of some of Barkleys touchdowns.
Within just a few weeks Joe Judge has proven that he is a better head coach than Ben McAdoo and Pat Shurmur. Judge has that tough mentality that the Giants need in order to win games. It might not be this year, but Joe Judge will help propel the Giants to a winning record in the near future.
